Newport pupils help relaunch Wastesavers' Education Room following major refurbishment, inspiring the next generation of recyclers.

Pupils from Ysgol Gymraeg Ifor Hael helped officially relaunch Wastesavers’ newly refurbished Education Room in Newport. The newly transformed facility features immersive educational pods and hands-on activities that allow pupils to explore the journey of everyday materials, from production through to recycling and reuse.

Free to primary schools and home-educated children at Key Stage 2, the Education Room has been created to bring recycling education to life, helping young people understand where materials come from, how they are recycled, and the positive impact recycling can have on the environment.

The relaunch was marked by a special event led by pupils from Ysgol Gymraeg Ifor Hael, Newport, who gave guests a tour of the room and unveiled a commemorative plaque. The students were among the first to experience the new learning environment.

Penny Goodwin, CEO, Wastesavers

“We’re incredibly proud to officially relaunch our Education Room and welcome a new generation of young learners through its doors.

While the space looks very different to when it first opened back in 2005, its purpose remains the same: to inspire children to think differently about waste, recycling and the resources we use every day.

By introducing interactive learning pods and hands-on experiences, we hope to make environmental education more engaging and help empower young people to make positive choices for the future.”

For many years, the Education Room has welcomed children from across the region, supporting curriculum-based learning and encouraging positive environmental behaviours from a young age. The refurbishment represents a significant investment in the future of environmental education, ensuring the space continues to engage and inspire young people for years to come.

The relaunch reflects Wastesavers’ ongoing commitment to reducing waste, promoting recycling and supporting local communities through education.

The Education Room is free to all schools and home-educating families within the South Wales region. To find out more and book free sessions, visit the Wastesavers website.
