The Newport Nappy Library is a library where you can borrow reusable cloth nappies to see if they work for you.

Most cloth nappy schemes want you to buy a particular brand or sign up for a long contract.

With our nappy library you have a chance to try them out first with no pressure to buy.

For a small fee (plus deposit) we lend you a full kit of the main different styles of reusable cloth nappies for you to try out for a month.

We show you how the nappies work and how to wash them, and will be on hand during the trial to help with any issues you might have.

After a month you return the kit and we return your deposit.

What it’s all about explained

Most of our work is getting out and about in the parenting community in Newport.

If you are part of a group that meets with babies or toddlers we would love to hear from you!

We also run drop in sessions on the second Wednesday of the month at the Reuse Centre on Chepstow Road, Maindee.

Please pop in to learn more about cloth nappies and get some extra tips if you are already using them.

We also take donations of cloth nappies.

Your donation will help someone who may not be able to afford the initial outlay of cloth nappies but who still wants to use them.

If you have any cloth nappies in a good, usable condition that you no longer need, drop them into the Reuse Centre on Chepstow Road any day (closed Sunday).

Why are we doing this?

In the first year of their life your baby will produce around 78 bin bags full of disposable nappies!

Over the course of 2.5 years to potty training that all adds up to a lot of waste that has to be disposed of somewhere.

If you’re interested in using an alternative, more environmentally friendly option for your baby – we are here to help.
