Residents in Newport can put their used pumpkins out on top of their brown food caddy next week after Halloween.
“We normally require food caddies to be closed,” explained Penny Goodwin, CEO of Wastesavers, “ “but realise that at Halloween most pumpkins will not fit in, so we are happy to pick them up if they are left on top of the brown food caddy.”
“You can also use your pumpkin to make pies and soups once Halloween is over, giving it a second life” Penny continued.
According to the Wales Love Food Hate Waste campaign, across the UK more than 18,000 tons of pumpkins will be sold over Halloween, 99% of which will never be eaten.
